AMD opens up Indonesia office
Processor maker and Intel’s archrival Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) will formally announce its Indonesian local office and representative. An ex-HP (Hewlett-Packard) executive was appointed as AMD’s first local Country Manager. It was nearly two years ago since AMD’s regional executive mentioned its plan to have local presence in Indonesia. Apparently they had opened their office in Jakarta at Menara Kadin six months ago. The Sunnyvale, California, USA based company appointed Dommy Arnanta as AMD Indonesia first Country Manager. Dommy was a former Market Development Manager for Consumer PC at Hewlett-Packard Indonesia.
AMD’s decision may linked to its strong performance in the last two years. In an interview with Bisnis Indonesia last year, based on Gartner report, AMD claimed 21% market share in fourth quarter of 2005. Contributing to its market shares was sales of desktops, laptops and servers both from OEM partners and local distributors.
Local PC manufacturer cited AMD’s competitive price as a suitable platform to win SMB market. Using AMD platform would save production cost as much as 20% compare to Intel, said one of local major PC manufacturer. Local OEM customers include Wearnes’ manufacturer Metrindo Supra Sinatria with BoldLine line of products and ReLion’s manufacturer Berca Cakra Teknologi.
Well, opening a local office just a new start. AMD still has a long way to go to catch up with Intel that has been doing business in Indonesia since 10 years ago.

Hal Immanuel Computer. Jadi sekarang ada AMTEC sebagai distributor. Terimakasih atas inputnya. Mengenai MB DDR3, bulan ini saja baru diumumkan, berarti memang besar kemungkinan akhir tahun…kalau tepat jadualnya.
